Where — Clear Lake/Durland Reservation – campsite 35. Unless you make other arrangements, the Scouts will be dropped off at camp. Directions can be found on the Council website http://wpcbsa.org/ShortTermCamp/Durland/TravelDirections.asp
When — I will arrive at camp around 2:00 pm. I will stay at the check-in cabin until we have a group of boys and a second adult that can accompany us to the campsite.
Who — We have 8 boys signed up formed into two patrols. The leaders for this weekend are myself (Scoutmaster) and Lou Schlanger. If any other adults would like to come along please let me know. If any Scouts signed up and need to cancel please let me know – it will save me from making phone calls.
Once again, Scouts are responsible for their personal gear. They should have a mess kit, sleeping bag, toothbrush etc. They should know where where they’re sleeping. If you’re using a Troop tent make sure you check and make sure all of the parts are there BEFORE you need it on Saturday. For any questions Scouts should contact their Patrol Leader, anyone in the Senior Patrol, the Assistant Scoutmasters or the Scoutmaster.
There is a 10$ fee to cover the cost of the campsite and food. If you haven’t paid please remember to give it to Ms. Wo (Treasurer) at the next meeting.
Keep an eye on the weather. The current forecast is calling for a diminishing chance of showers Saturday. Toward the evening and overnight the probability of rain tapers off to 10%. Temperature will be in the mid 60′s falling to mid 50′s overnight.
Patrol expenses: expenses for food can be submitted to the Treasurer for reimbursement. Make sure you have receipts and the completed expense form. Expenses for off-the-menu snacks etc. are the responsibility of the individual and won’t be reimbursed. Since this is a local trip there are no travel expenses.

We had a great meeting at Downing Park to kick off the Scouting year. Congratulations to Nick who is our new Senior Patrol Leader. Congratulations also to Nikhil and James for securing their positions as Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders.
At the meeting we also formed the two patrols:
Patrol A: Erik, Tyler, Sal and Jesse
Patrol B: Tim, Alex, Doug and Larry
(patrol names will be decided upon at the next meeting)
SENIOR PATROL:
The Senior Patrol will have an organizational meeting at 7:00pm on Tuesday prior to the meeting. Nick, Nikhil and James only.
REGULAR MEETING: Tuesday 9/25 at the Grange Hall, 7:30pm
Our first ‘regular’ meeting at the Grange Hall. We’ll work on planning for the upcoming camping trip and finalize the patrols.
CAMPOUT: Saturday 9/29 at Clear Lake/Durland
We have campsite 35 reserved for our Troop Saturday night. This is a simple one night campout. Details for the trip will be distributed at the meeting Tuesday. Parents and/or Leaders interested in going should contact the Scoutmaster as soon as possible.
PERSONAL INFORMATION:
We are updating the Troop database for the upcoming year. At the meeting we’ll have printouts so Scouts and Families add or update any information.
Adults: we need Youth Protection Training dates for verification. If it’s been more than two years since you’ve taken the training or if you’ve never taken it – DO IT ! It’s a simple 20 minute presentation online. If you don’t have this training you cannot participate in any Troop activities.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING:
As we are all aware we have very few trained leaders on our Troop roster. We are required to have a trained leader on EVERY trip. The training is full of good information and it is not very difficult.
Council is providing leadership training this fall. Here is the schedule:
Classroom sessions: Sept 20, Sept 27, Oct 11
Outdoor session: Oct 28-28
The sessions do not have to be taken consecutively. If you’ve missed the Sept 20 session you can take sessions 2 and 3 along with the outdoor session and make up the session 1 material when it’s offered in the Spring.
POPCORN:
Popcorn sales materials were distributed at the last meeting. Don’t forget to get out there and help your Troop !!
